It Has Been A Loooooooonnnngggg Time...
... and we are kind of sorry, but not really. However, I have become interested in the site again recently, have plans to redesign it and maybe change it's direction a little bit. Hopefully a direction that people besides MM and myself will be interested in. Sometime in the future we will finally start doing interviews with up and coming bands in our area. We've made a handful of connections but have been too busy (and lazy) to use them. You can also expect a write-up on our experience at this year's Mayhem Fest, Rush's Time Machine Tour(AWESOME!) and a way less shitty looking site. So If you now feel like saying to us: "it's okay, we're still here; we've always been here." Save it. I wasn't apologizing to you people anyways, I was apologizing to the poor neglected blog and all it's wasted space and potential. Sorry blog, we love you...

What we're listening to! FREE MP3s!
I recently got a ton of melodic metal from a "friend". There was like 10 gigs of it so I didn't expect much of it to be any good. However, I was very suprised, so from now until who the hell knows i'll be sharing these suprises with you.
The first of these is a band called Sonic Syndicate. They are a 6-peice melodic death band from Falkenberg, Sweden. I had found them previously just downloading random metal mp3's from a free trial of eMusic(if you haven't figured it out yet I don't buy a lot of cd's anymore). Sadly, I had downloaded such a large volume of stuff I completely lost these guys in the hellish bowels of my mp3 player(it's a tag freak's nightmare). In the 10 gig "stash" of metal I got, there are a few of their albums including Eden Fire, there are a couple really good songs on this one. Two of my favorites are "Jailbreak" and "Enhance My Nightmare". Lucky for you guys I'll include one ot these at the end of this post(when I get around to it, so just keep checking back). Insead of talking at you with snobby metal jargon i'll just say, check them out for yourself. I give them a:
There's alot more where this came from but you'll just have to wait, i'm not feeling especially generous today. Here's your mp3 you filthy hippies:
"Jailbreak" by Sonic Syndicate
Daybreakers... A review and why we are pissed
If you think that this is just another vampire movie, you are right. However, there are some "hot" elements to this one that I haven't seen in other vampire movies. Before we start, Daybreakers is a movie where vampires are the majority, and people are the minority. This makes me very angry for a reason I will reveal to you later. Anywho, the vampires have taken "all" remaining humans and started farming them for blood. This movie did meet my expecations and I do suggest it for monster movie fans. The picture at the head of this post, does have something I need to adress, if you go in to this one expecting The Matrix meets 28 Days Later, you will be dissapointed. If anything this movie is the bastard son of 28 Days Later and the milkman. My views about the movie and why i'm pissed after the jump.

Wednesday- Dio Week!
It's Wednesday of Dio week and we have the next song. It's Eating the Cannibals by Heaven and Hell! Enjoy it or we will come to your house and eat your wife and kids. Then, well, I guess I don't know. Maybe take a hot stinky dump in your bathroom... we're gonna think of something.

Dio Week- Tuesday!
It's the second day of Dio Week here at Riverside Metal, and that means another Dio song! When there's lightning, we know we'll always have you Dio. I bet you are up in metal heaven right now doing your badass hand motions and making your weird faces. Jumping off your golden roof ledge in your sweet moonboots. Ah... heaven sounds so awesome.

Daily Dio- FREE MP3!
Today's Dio song is Lady Evil. Enjoy but download quickly as at the end of next week we will take all mp3's down to prevent our asses from getting sued. Or I guess we could give them a mohawk and wheelchair...
Lady Evil
Remember to delete it when you are done evaluating it *wink*.
Ronnie James Dio dies of stomach cancer Sunday!

MM: Well as everyone has probably heard Dio passed away on May 16 (my BDay oddly enough) so we decided we would have a daily Dio song to help lessen the blow of losing the voice of metal. Each song will have some significance to either us or them or we just like it. Either way it'll be kick ass! So let's begin shall we!
tC: Thank you Little Hitler, for popularizing the "devil horns", for being a huge influence on rock and metal music everywhere, and for just being straight up BAD ASS! We are working on a tribute video for you. We'll post it soon hopefully. The third week of May will forever be "Dio Week" here at Riverside Metal. RIP Dio, we miss you already.

Concert Archive: Coheed, Circa, Torche @ Cain's Ballroom 4/30/10
Friday's concert was an amazing experience. The venue is very interesting, it has two bars, a stage and a large dance floor. The second bar has a smaller stage where they project a live video image of the main stage. Why you would be content watching this I don't know but it was useful for Torche's set. We did not think much of it. Their sound wasn't set up very well. Their songs sound cool at the beginning but once they are all playing it was so muffled you couldn't distinguish much. I'm not saying they weren't good but I just couldn't enjoy their set at all.
Circa Survive's set was much better. Their sound was a little shrill at the end, but up until that point it was very smooth. They sound exactly like their recordings which is becoming pretty rare now that artists can openly use tools like auto-tune to make their recordings better, and no one seems to care. They played a handful of their well known songs like 1,000 Witnesses and Stop the Fucking Car, but to my wife's great disappointment, did not play Travel Hymn. They mixed up their songs a little bit while they were playing them which was confusing and interesting at the same time. Circa's stage was kind of neat yet very simple. They had a wall of mirrors behind them and large strobe lights. I'm a sucker for strobes so this definitely worked for me.
Moving on, Coheed & Cambria's set was amazing! I will admit I am particularly biased towards them in this situation. However there was no denying the energy that everyone seemed to exist once Coheed started playing. They started with "One" as was expected and went straight into "The Broken".
A rush of screams and energy seemed to emanate throughout the ballroom whenever they started One. Every song after was greeted with a roar from the crowd. Some songs they played for their set were "The Broken", "Guns of Summer", "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3", "Everything Evil", "Welcome Home", "Pearl of The Stars", "Time Consumer, and many more. People were moving so much the floor of Cain's was moving up and down and at some points it buckled so much you could feel it bottom out on the foundation below. It was hard to stand still but if you just moved with the crowd you were fine.
Whenever they played Welcome Home everyone joined in on the vocals as they did on every other song. But when you hear that Whoa-ah-oooh filling the entire ballroom it gives you goosebumps and this crazy rush of euphoria. If you are a Coheed fan and have yet to see a show, PLEASE DO!
It will change you in ways maybe small, maybe large, but the connection to the music that you feel will change forever. Each song will never be the same. I have seen them twice and each experience is different, and I don't believe it will ever get old or boring, no matter how many times I see them.

American Carnage Tour

Ever wanted to see Megadeth live? How about Slayer? Well how about both together with Testament thrown in the mix just for shits and giggles? Well the fact of the matter is the tour is actually going to happen starting July 23rd (again it began in January) and terrorize the US. August 23rd they will be in Kansas City so I think we might just have to attend this one. This might be the only time these bands of this magnitude ever get together again (let's face it their getting old, Slayer's lead singer can't even head bang anymore since his neck surgery) so I think you've got to catch em while they last. Stay Hard -Metal Messiah
(PS- Slayer, please have all the equipment working, last time in KC you looked stoned and like you didn't know what was going on (funny, but not when you pay for a show, and no one could fix the amps.)
Smiley Junction
Sunday night's episode of Aqua Teen centered around a cell phone game featuring none other, but the elusive Kangarilla. It is scientifically known as the Magrillapus(Macropus Giganteus Gorilla). Shake and frylock get so into this game, they don't even realize there is a ghost terrorizing their house. Once the game has been destroyed, they find that the ghost only wants pizza and chinese takeout. The full episode is still up on Adult Swim Video. Check it out. Also check out this article about the Magrillapus.

Time Machine Tour!
That's right everyone the Canadian Power Trio is back once again for a full tour. This time their setlist will include Moving Pictures in it's entirety! I saw Rush for their 30 Anniversary tour and it was an awesome experience so you can bet we are very excited for this. If you have never been to a Rush concert and you like them, I highly suggest you do. The energy is crazy especially on their most well known songs. On YYZ, the entire crowd actually sings the guitar parts because there are no words. When Neil breaks out his drum solo, everyone goes INSANE. Their stage is always very interesting and they bring along stuff from all their other tours and have it up there with them. For example the dragon, which is featured on the cover of their Rush In Rio album and dvd, is now a recurring character at their shows, as is the Starman.
Tour dates and venues after the jump.

Let's sing that song one more time...
I know it's been a long time since we posted but here we go. The new season of aqua teen is still moving along. The last two offerings where "Juggalo", and "Multiple Meats". I will say first off that I didn't think that Juggalo was very good. This episode featured an "angel" making Shake do things to make up for killing him. It seemed too much like "Bart Oates" to me. However, the scene at the beginning where they throw the peice of cement off the bridge was very funny. The rest of the episode I've forgotten and it's too bad for you that I don't feel like finding it to watch it again. Go watch it for yourself if you're curious.
On the other hand "Multiple Meats" was pretty funny. Shake in his usual fit of anger, chops Meatwad in half. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but the two halves came to life seperately. The episode progresses in this manner until Shake has created so many meatwads that they have a congress to decide what they want to do. The conversations between the Meatwads are hilarious especially when they are voting. Frylock gets even with Shake once again by starting the "Bottles of beer song" at 3 million and leaving Shake at the house with the meats. One of the suprising things about this episode is that no one died or used any sexual humor. But they still made it work and very well I might add.
Check back in a day or two for a review and an unboxing video of the new Coheed album "Year Of The Black Rainbow". Also we'll be discussing Rush's upcoming Time Machine Tour featuring for the first time... MOVING PICTURES IN IT'S ENTIRETY!! The righteous will rise, with burning eyes.

Stuff we think about way too much...
Ever been strolling through the park and this see a really pretty zombie babe? Did you fall in love with said zombie babe? Well imagine you are to the crucial third date, with the undead beauty you always dreamed of. You're both standing on her porch, she winks(or at least it looks like she does, her eyelid may have just been falling off) and starts to walk towards the door. Suddenly, something clicks in those tasty brains of yours and you ask yourself: Is it considered necrophilia if I have sex with her? Yes I'm seriously talking about this. There's more after the jump.

Mayhem Fest 2010

MM: Ah, summer is coming up and you know what that means.....no not swimming, baseball, vacation....no, I'm talking about summer music festivals and the big one for the last 3 years is coming back. Rockstar energy drinks is once again sponsoring the event and the list is just as impressive this year as it was last year.

(Full lineup information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayhem_Festival_2009).
MM: Myself and Crowing will attend this one as well and report back with photos, experience, and hopefully interviews with bands. This years' line up includes Korn, Rob Zombie, Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Atreyu, Norma Jean (WTF), In This Moment, 3 Inches of Blood (DEADLY SINNERS!!!), Hatebreed, Chimaira, Shadows Fall, and Winds of Plague.
tC: Hopefully by then would should have some stuff to pass out(sorry not drugs), be on the lookout for us!
MM: All in all looks to be a good concert and we can't wait to attend. And if any readers are heading up that way let us know, we would love to hear from ya!!
Lap up that free puddin, Bill Cosby left it just for you!

Last night was the premiere of the second installment in the 9th season of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. In a bump before the episode, Adult Swim said that it was by far the most violent and disturbing episode of the season. I would agree with this and go even farther and say it would be the most violent and disturbing episode of the entire show. This episode is filled with dismemberment and tons of drug use including crack, cocaine, and heroine. The episode centered around a duck made of used condoms and heroin needles created by Frylock to help teach important lessons about not recycling condoms.
This was one of the first episodes to have even the tiniest shock factor on me. I have the feeling Williams Street is really going to push the envelope this season and see how far they can go. I'm very excited to see what they come up with this time around. Notable voice acting in this episode include: Don Kennedy(of Space Ghost Coast To Coast), and George Lowe(Voice of Space Ghost, etc.) Video and upcoming episodes after the jump.

Album Review: Steel Panther- Feel the Steel

Feel the Steel is the debut 2009 album for the comedy glam metal band hailing from (imagine this) Southern California. Steel Panther is made up of ex-L.A. Guns vocalist Michael Starr, Lead guitarist Satchel, bassist Lexxi Foxxx, and Stix Zadinia on drums. The band sounds and looks just like something that would of stricken the world in the 80s but they're a couple of decades late, but the girls...I mean guys made a good jump to the new millennium. First and foremost the album is the funniest thing I have ever heard (surpassing Tenacious D easily, sorry Cockpushups). The song names themselves don't even need narration (Asian Hooker, Eatin' Ain't Cheatin, The Shocker, Fat Girl (Thar She Blows), and the list just keeps growing). Steel Panther even reached into their bags of tricks and pulled out some big names for help on Feel the Steel. The vocalist god Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour) helps out on 3 songs, Anthrax guitar hero Scott Ian lends his trusty Axe on Asian Hooker, and M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold) flexes his larynx on Turn Out the Lights.
Aqua Teen Season 9! Shake Flavor and A Magic House
Last night was the premiere of Aqua Teen Season 9. In a bump before the episode Adult Swim said that many questions would be answered. One of these was Shake's actual flavor. I was under the belief that Shake's flavor was pistachio. In the episode shake starts spewing his yogurt all over Meatwad's new room. The creators of the show have changed the color of his shake power to white. When meatwad asks what flavor it is Shake replies "It's None of your business flavor!" Other mysterious issues talked about in the show where Meatwad's ability to improvise the script and their house's magic ability to repair itself after every episode.

Buy a Dethklok Fountain Motha-Bitch!!!!
So apparently adultswim has created a 66" high marble fountain based on an episode of Metalocalypse. The fountain is a steal at $40,000 minus shipping and handling. The link can be found here http://www.adultswimshop.com/cat/Metalocalypse-Dethklok-Fountain.html. The ad even says its real so if I were you I would definitely buy one (maybe two) . The only thing I need to find is where all the blood came from.........
