What we're listening to! FREE MP3s!

I recently got a ton of melodic metal from a "friend". There was like 10 gigs of it so I didn't expect much of it to be any good. However, I was very suprised, so from now until who the hell knows i'll be sharing these suprises with you.

The first of these is a band called Sonic Syndicate. They are a 6-peice melodic death band from Falkenberg, Sweden. I had found them previously just downloading random metal mp3's from a free trial of eMusic(if you haven't figured it out yet I don't buy a lot of cd's anymore). Sadly, I had downloaded such a large volume of stuff I completely lost these guys in the hellish bowels of my mp3 player(it's a tag freak's nightmare). In the 10 gig "stash" of metal I got, there are a few of their albums including Eden Fire, there are a couple really good songs on this one. Two of my favorites are "Jailbreak" and "Enhance My Nightmare". Lucky for you guys I'll include one ot these at the end of this post(when I get around to it, so just keep checking back). Insead of talking at you with snobby metal jargon i'll just say, check them out for yourself.

I give them a:
  /5.
There's alot more where this came from but you'll just have to wait, i'm not feeling especially generous today.

Here's your mp3 you filthy hippies:

Daybreakers... A review and why we are pissed

If you think that this is just another vampire movie, you are right. However, there are some "hot" elements to this one that I haven't seen in other vampire movies. Before we start, Daybreakers is a movie where vampires are the majority, and people are the minority. This makes me very angry for a reason I will reveal to you later. Anywho, the vampires have taken "all" remaining humans and started farming them for blood. This movie did meet my expecations and I do suggest it for monster movie fans. The picture at the head of this post, does have something I need to adress, if you go in to this one expecting The Matrix meets 28 Days Later, you will be dissapointed. If anything this movie is the bastard son of 28 Days Later and the milkman. My views about the movie and why i'm pissed after the jump.

It's Wednesday of Dio week and we have the next song. It's Eating the Cannibals by Heaven and Hell! Enjoy it or we will come to your house and eat your wife and kids. Then, well, I guess I don't know. Maybe take a hot stinky dump in your bathroom... we're gonna think of something.

It's the second day of Dio Week here at Riverside Metal, and that means another Dio song! When there's lightning, we know we'll always have you Dio. I bet you are up in metal heaven right now doing your badass hand motions and making your weird faces. Jumping off your golden roof ledge in your sweet moonboots. Ah... heaven sounds so awesome.

Daily Dio- FREE MP3!

Today's Dio song is Lady Evil. Enjoy but download quickly as at the end of next week we will take all mp3's down to prevent our asses from getting sued. Or I guess we could give them a mohawk and wheelchair...

Remember to delete it when you are done evaluating it *wink*.

Ronnie James Dio dies of stomach cancer Sunday!

MM: Well as everyone has probably heard Dio passed away on May 16 (my BDay oddly enough) so we decided we would have a daily Dio song to help lessen the blow of losing the voice of metal. Each song will have some significance to either us or them or we just like it. Either way it'll be kick ass! So let's begin shall we!

tC: Thank you Little Hitler, for popularizing the "devil horns", for being a huge influence on rock and metal music everywhere, and for just being straight up BAD ASS! We are working on a tribute video for you. We'll post it soon hopefully. The third week of May will forever be "Dio Week" here at Riverside Metal. RIP Dio, we miss you already.

Concert Archive: Coheed, Circa, Torche @ Cain's Ballroom 4/30/10

Friday's concert was an amazing experience. The venue is very interesting, it has two bars, a stage and a large dance floor. The second bar has a smaller stage where they project a live video image of the main stage. Why you would be content watching this I don't know but it was useful for Torche's set. We did not think much of it. Their sound wasn't set up very well. Their songs sound cool at the beginning but once they are all playing it was so muffled you couldn't distinguish much. I'm not saying they weren't good but I just couldn't enjoy their set at all.

Circa Survive's set was much better. Their sound was a little shrill at the end, but up until that point it was very smooth. They sound exactly like their recordings which is becoming pretty rare now that artists can openly use tools like auto-tune to make their recordings better, and no one seems to care. They played a handful of their well known songs like 1,000 Witnesses and Stop the Fucking Car, but to my wife's great disappointment, did not play Travel Hymn. They mixed up their songs a little bit while they were playing them which was confusing and interesting at the same time. Circa's stage was kind of neat yet very simple. They had a wall of mirrors behind them and large strobe lights. I'm a sucker for strobes so this definitely worked for me.

Moving on, Coheed & Cambria's set was amazing! I will admit I am particularly biased towards them in this situation. However there was no denying the energy that everyone seemed to exist once Coheed started playing. They started with "One" as was expected and went straight into "The Broken".
A rush of screams and energy seemed to emanate throughout the ballroom whenever they started One. Every song after was greeted with a roar from the crowd. Some songs they played for their set were "The Broken", "Guns of Summer", "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3", "Everything Evil", "Welcome Home",  "Pearl of The Stars", "Time Consumer, and many more. People were moving so much the floor of Cain's was moving up and down and at some points it buckled so much you could feel it bottom out on the foundation below. It was hard to stand still but if you just moved with the crowd you were fine.
Whenever they played Welcome Home everyone joined in on the vocals as they did on every other song. But when you hear that Whoa-ah-oooh filling the entire ballroom it gives you goosebumps and this crazy rush of euphoria. If you are a Coheed fan and have yet to see a show, PLEASE DO!
It will change you in ways maybe small, maybe large, but the connection to the music that you feel will change forever. Each song will never be the same. I have seen them twice and each experience is different, and I don't believe it will ever get old or boring, no matter how many times I see them.
Some video and merch after the jump...
